South Coast Hideaway
Located in the idyllic NSW south coast hinterland, just two hours’ drive from Sydney, Taylor’s of Berry is a private, peaceful and luxurious retreat for a couple. With lush, wraparound views of the escarpment and beyond, Taylor’s of Berry is an ideal spot from which to explore the Shoalhaven region – or simply relax and dream. The accommodation is approximately five minutes’ drive from historic Berry, fifteen minutes from the ocean at magnificent Seven Mile Beach, and a short distance from several of the region’s beautiful wineries.
Taylor’s of Berry offers open-plan living in a unique, barn-style environment comprising a fully-fitted cook’s kitchen with Smeg appliances, generous living/dining, queen-size bedroom with French doors and a separate bathroom with underfloor heating and clawfoot bath. Sliding doors on two sides open to a generous timber deck. With a distinctive brick-tiled floor throughout, the accommodation is styled with a mix of classic and modern furniture, and works by contemporary Australian artists. Taylor’s of Berry is fitted with a gas fireplace and outdoor barbecue, reverse-cycle air conditioning, ceiling fans, fly screens, wifi and an automated awning to provide shade on those hot, summer days.
Designed to sit lightly on the landscape, Taylor’s of Berry is owned by local Berry residents Neale Whitaker and David Novak-Piper who moved permanently to the Shoalhaven from Sydney in 2018, after enjoying weekends and holidays in the region for many years. It was the couple’s dream to create luxury accommodation for guests to enjoy and experience a place that was very special to them. Working with a Berry-based architectural designer and builder to bring their dream to fruition, Neale and David have styled the accommodation with a unique ‘country luxe’ aesthetic that blends contemporary comfort with carefully-edited vintage pieces and Australian artworks. The restful interior palette and simple exterior landscaping have been chosen to reflect and harmonise with the beautiful rural views.
